The Mother’s Day Classic is one of Australia’s largest charity events and raises money for breast cancer research. More than 120,000 people took part in 2011 and raised $3 million. The 2012 Mother’s Day Classic takes place on Sunday 13 May, 2012.
The Mother’s Day Classic is an opportunity to do something active and fun on Mother’s day, while remembering those who have been affected by or who are living with breast cancer and raising money for breast cancer research.

The Melbourne event continues to break records and exceed all our expectations with 44,000 registered to participate in 2012. Even the rain and cold couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm and community spirit of the participants and over 600 volunteers who came along to celebrate the 15th anniversary and pay tribute to those who have been affected by breast cancer in some way.
Together we have raised a record $4 million at the 2012 Women in Super’s Mother’s Day Classic.
This year’s success brings to $14.8 million the total funds raised in 15 years by you and all past participants for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and its research programs.

Fun Run Event Details
This year’s event will take place on Sunday 13 May in all capital cities and more than 25 regional locations across Australia. The Melbourne Mother’s Day Classic event involves a 4km and 8km walk and run around Alexandra Gardens and the Tan Track.

Start Time: From 7.00am to 12noon
Registration closing dates:
Early bird entries close: 5.00pm on Wednesday 11 April 2012.
Online entries close: 12 noon Wednesday 9 May 2012.
Mailed entries close: 5.00pm on Friday 4 May 2012.
Late entries: Will be available at Alexandra Gardens at the following times:
Saturday 12 May 2012 from 10am – 3.00pm
Sunday 13 May 2012 (event day) from 6.15am (arrive early to avoid the queues)
Due to the large number of participants expected at this years events and to ensure your safety, all events will be sent off in waves for 2012.
Runners:
Both the 4km and the 8km run events have two wave starts. You must select a wave start during the registration process. The times are as follows:
7.30am 4km run starts – first wave (white race bibs)
7.45am 4km run starts – second wave (orange race bibs)
8.15am 8km run starts – first wave (yellow race bibs)
8.20am 8km run starts – second wave (dark pink race bibs)
Each running wave has a capacity of 4,000 participants. Once the wave is full, participants will have to select another wave.
**Participants must start in the wave selected.
For all the runners that are worried about the NEW WAVE system ruining your time, don’t be. Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you actually have a chance of placing, run in the first wave of your chosen distance.
Walkers
During the registration process, walkers will be able to select one of the following waves to start in:
9.30am – Wave Start Light Pink
10.00am – Wave Start Blue
10.30am – Wave Start Green
Each wave has a capacity of 10,000 participants. Once the wave is full, participants will have to select another wave.

All proceeds from the Mother’s Day Classic are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not for profit organisation that promotes and supports research into breast cancer prevention and treatment. Since 1998 the Mother’s Day Classic has raised $10.8 million dollars.
From modest beginnings in 1998, the Mother’s Day Classic has grown into one of Australia’s largest national charity events and has become an integral part of Mother’s Day for thousands of Australians.

RUNNERS / WALKERS – Have you registered to participate in a run or walk?
If not, do so now – register today! Once you have registered, you will receive an email with a link to your own personal fundraising page. It’s that easy, so please register now as your first step to fundraise.
VOLUNTEERS / SPECTATORS / SUPPORTERS – Do you wish to fundraise without registering to walk or run?
If so, it is possible to register to fundraise. Please note, this option is only available to those not walking or running as fundraising pages are automatically generated when you register to participate in an event.

The 2012 Melbourne Course & Map
The course follows the roads around the Royal Botanic Gardens, with the finish line on St Kilda Road. The start line is on Alexandra Avenue, near the Pillars of Wisdom. Both the run and walk events go in a clockwise direction around the circuit.
The 4km and 8km runs are run separately to the 4km and 8km walks.
