About the Albert Park MS Walk and Fun Run

Every year on the first Sunday in June, thousands of people come together in Melbourne to walk and run in support of Australians living with multiple sclerosis. Taking part in the 2013 MS Walk and Fun Run will not only improve your overall health and fitness, it will also make you feel warm inside for contributing to such a great cause. Stroll or power-walk, travel by wheelchair, pram or stroller, wear serious sports gear or wacky team costumes. Whatever you choose, you will be helping thousands of Australians who are living with multiple sclerosis.

MaxNRG-warm-up

The MS Walk and Fun Run is organised by MS Australia and our own MaxNRG Personal Training team are once again helping support the event by organising the ‘warm up’. Since the first event in 1989, MS Walk and Fun Run participants have raised millions of dollars to fund essential services and support for people living with MS.

The MS Walk and Fun Run will go ahead rain or shine. Come prepared with sunscreen, warm layered clothes and wet weather gear to ensure you have a great day no matter what the weather brings. Bring your own water bottle and a snack or two to keep your energy levels up.

MS Fun Run Event Details

If you are feeling energetic, why not take on the challenge of completing the 5km or 10km routes at a faster pace than a walk and reach for a personal best on the Melbourne MS Fun Run while being timed with a professional chip timing system. Timing chips are attached to all race bibs and the chips will activate automatically as you cross timing mats at the start and finish lines, recording the time you take to complete the course.

The Medibank Melbourne Marathon is the largest marathon in Australia, we strive to deliver a world class event that will accommodate the increasing demand. In 2013 we have made further improvements to the marathon course for participant safety and to reduce course crowding:

  • Increased road Width – the use of the centre of St Kilda Rd from Toorak Rd to Southbank Blvd exclusively for marathon runners until 10.00am
  • Added runner lanes – in St Kilda Rd where the half marathon and marathon merge we have separate running lanes with exclusive lanes for marathon only
  • Separated the half marathon course from marathon – so that the last 8 km of the course is a marathon only course – runners do merge as they enter the MCG

Do it for Charity!!!

This is a major event of Melbourne and a vital part of this event is to raise money for two extremely important charities Cerebral Palsy Education Centre (CPEC) and the James Macready-Bryan Foundation (JMB)

[frame_center]https://www.maxnrgpt.com.au/images/cerebal_palsy_education_centre.jpg[/frame_center]

CEREBRAL PALSY EDUCATION CENTRE (CPEC)

Cerebral Palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood and most results in damage (brain injury) to the developing brain before, during or very early in life. CPEC provides early intervention education programs and teach children how to walk and communication when they would otherwise have been unable to.

Run Melbourne, presented by The Age

[fb-like]
Take part in this year Run Melbourne, one of Melbourne’s major walk, fun run charity event in Melbourne. Come and join in the event this year at Federation Square on Sunday 15th July 2012.

Run Melbourne, presented by The Age

It’s on again in 2012!

On Sunday, 15 July 2012, Run Melbourne, presented by The Age will be held once again, offering participants a half-marathon, an Australian Institute of Fitness 10km run and a 5km run or walk, starting and finishing at Federation Square. From its inception in 1994 as Run to the G, this event has become synonymous with Melbourne.

When the event first started in 1994 it was a major running and walking event for Melbourne and Victoria that incorporated many of the cities finest landmarks and giving participants a chance to make their weekend run an occasion to remember by finishing with a lap of the iconic MCG.

Much has changed since those early days with the event no longer finishing with a lap of the MCG, nor does it start in Yarra Park, and more distances and events have been added (a 5km walk/run, 10km run and a half-marathon (21.1km)).

*UPDATE – Early bird entries close Friday 15 June! Enter HERE NOW!

The event now has a new home at Federation Square and the date of the event has gradually moved from being held in May or mid June to now mid July.

Although the course has changed both distances and routes throughout the years, the inner city course remains Melbourne’s most scenic and takes in such landmarks as Flinders St. Station, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Federation Square, Princes Bridge, the Sandridge rail bridge, the Yarra River and the picturesque parkland at Birrarung Marr.

The Age Run Melbourne is the community fitness event for everyone. With the right training, anyone, at any age and any fitness level can participate. It’s also an opportunity to raise money for the charity you care about most. Last years 2011 event had 20,447 participants and raised $1,279,395 for a number of fantastic charities.

There is a playground in Coulson Park for the kids and plenty of barbeque and seating areas to kick back, watch the sun set and enjoy an evening picnic after the race.

Every 11 hours an Australian woman dies from ovarian cancer. There is no detection test – the Pap test does not detect ovarian cancer so learning the risks and symptoms is critical to ensure early diagnosis.
